How often do you hear statements like: “Don’t compare yourself with others”? That is good advice if you do not know how to use others for learning, benchmark or self-motivation.
So many people fall into the trap of negative comparison when they see successful people. That is the wrong way of processing information. When you do that, you begin negative self-talk and unconsciously demotivate yourself.
Comparing with others and saying or feeling:
I am not successful enough
I am not attractive enough
I am not disciplined enough
I am not smart enough
I am not wealthy enough
I am not ….
will give only negative thoughts and emotions. Negative thoughts negatively affect your body, and you literally become weak. You can even try muscle test to see evidence for yourself. Those powerful negative affirmations will keep you stuck if you do not change the perspective of how you compare yourself with others.
Of course, you need to find out why do you feel those negative emotions and what beliefs do not serve you anymore. It is often useful to apply self-coaching techniques to see where you are. Anyone can do that, and it only takes a little time to find out meaningful answers.
If you catch yourself in negative self-talk and negatively judging yourself by comparing yourself with successful people you can ask yourself these questions:
What am I afraid of?
What is here I need to learn?
How these negative affirmations serve me?
Am I ready to let it go?
What person would I like to be if someone would want to compare himself with me?
What qualities would I like to have to motivate others?
Make strategy for yourself
These are essential elements of self-development strategy because they change the perspective of current position and way of looking at others.
The person who decides to use self-development tools sees other successful people as their role models, as ones who are evidence that it is possible to be successful.
You can start your first step with transforming your negative self-talk affirmations to positive I AM statements of desired qualities.
Success takes time, effort and patience so relax, use positive comparing with others to motivate yourself on your way to success.
